This writing prompt was a simple random word prompt. Simply use a random word generator and then try to write something off of the word given. My word was zippy. This one was a bit short but it can be pretty fun to write off of something as simple as a single word.

Layla raced down the hallway half stumbling over her own feet before righting herself.  The little ball of fur ahead of her zipped around the corner.  Breath hitching in her throat she chased after it cursing at herself.  How, how could she have let this happen?  And how could such a tiny creature pick up and carry such a heavy jade pendant?

Rounding the corner Layla hiccuped as her ragged breathing turned into quiet sobs.  It was a dead end and the little creature was nowhere in sight. No, no, no.  If she didn’t get that pendant back she would be trapped down here for good.  The director had warned her about coming down to the labyrinth.  Told her directly that she was not to go on her own.  But she just couldn’t listen, could she.

With another quiet sob Layla slid down the wall, head hanging low.  She sat there for a long while before a chittering sound interrupted her sulking.  Looking up she saw the little ball of fur standing nearly upright and staring at her.  Now that it was standing still she could see it more clearly.  Its fur was grey, almost silver.  It looked remarkably like a rat with overly large back feet.

The little thing chittered at her again.  “Where’s the pendant?” Layla asked even though she knew the rat thing wouldn’t be able to understand.  The rat chittered again and then bounded to one side and then another before zipping towards the back wall.  Layla just stared at it.  The rat jumped up and down several times more before rushing at the wall.

With a cry Layla bounded forward trying to stop the little thing from it’s suicidal run.  She was too late and the rat ran straight through the wall.  Layla blinked, stunned, before sitting back on her heels.  Had she just seen that right?  When the rat reappeared  Layla fell backwards with a small screech.

The little rat jumped up and down again, chittering, and then rushed back towards the wall before vanishing once again.  Slowly Layal righted herself.  She hadn’t imagined it.  It had gone through the wall.  Layla reached out her hand to the wall.  She hesitated and then pressed it against the wall.  Instead of making contact with rough stone Layla felt a small buzz against her skin as it passed straight through.

“Of course,” Layla said with a dark chuckle. The Labyrinth would be full of magical traps and tricks.  She would have never realized that this wall was a mere illusion if it hadn’t been for the little rat creature.  Whatever it was it must have some level of intelligence as it seemed to want Layla to follow it.  Well it wouldn’t be any worse than being lost here on her own, she figured.  With a deep breath Layla passed through the imaginary wall.
